change of profile from my name iPhone to XXX on app

left my phone on an airplane when I deboarded. it was on the 'airplane mode' setting so when I checked 'find my iphone' app - it said Nicola's iPhone and then offline. this morning it says XXX offline. Is battery dead or has it been wiped?
