HDMI adapter or Apple TV to link iPhone to TV?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a good way to connect my iPhone 5 to my HDTV. I realized that there are two ways basically to do this. I could either use an HDMI Lightning adapter or go with an Apple TV. The Lightning adapter costs around $50 and the Apple TV around $100. My question is: What would you recommend? Go for the ceaper option or rather invest in an Apple TV? I can't decide!!! 😕

It certainly depends on your personal use case. Is this for at home? The office?

Assuming you are wanting a way to connect to your home tv, I would certainly recommend an Apple TV. AirPlay Mirroring is a fantastic feature that lets you mirror exactly what you see on your device's display and transitions seamlessly into video playback.

Assuming this is in a living room environment also, the Apple TV would eliminate the need for pesky wires to be strung across the floor.

Go for the Apple TV! It will certainly get the job done, and provide you with more functionality over an HDMI adapter.

I completely agree to your point, grannersteven. In my opinion Apple TV delivers much more value for money. For example you could move around freely while controling the video playback. With an HDMI cable you are restricted to maybe 2-5 meters. And you could also connect other devices such as iPad, Macbook, etc. at the same time without cables. That is in my eyes a real benefit and worth the additional price of $40. I have found an info graphic which explains the iPhone to TV: HDMI / Airplay question very well.

Conclusion: Invest more and choose Apple TV!
