Is there a way to disable "versions?"

The "versions" feature in OS X 10.7 on my Macbook Air is not really ideal and would prefer to go back to "Save As..." Is there a simple way to disable this "versions" feature?

Thank you!!!!

Mac OS X (10.7.5)

If you don't want autosave you can copy & paste this command into Terminal at the prompt...

defaults write -g ApplePersistence -bool no

Press return

Now reboot.

Should you want it again, the reverse would be "yes".

"Save As" may or may not be in the menu if you hold the option key. I'm on a different OS version right now.
