I keep getting a notice that there is a software update available for me, but I don't need this one. The DELETE option in the EDIT menu is grayed out. No big problem, but I'd like to get rid of this reminder, and the little red number "1" on the App store logo. Any suggestions? Maria

I am only familiar with the Magic Touchpad that I use with my Mac mini. If the MTP is cofigured for right-click in Sys Prefs, it is a 2-finger click or tap. If you have a MacBook I'm not sure.
A far as the solution, I am going on memory, I don'r have an update currently that I can test this with. I remember doing this with a Software Update update a few weeks ago.
Dah•veed, I didn't explain clearly, sorry. It's nt an App that I purchased, it's a suggested software upgrade. The App Store icon also "notifies" me with a tiny red number when there are upgrades available. In my case, I don't need this particular upgrade, and so I always have the tiny number 1 on my icon. Thanks for replying.
What is the equivalent of "right click" on a Mac with touchpad? I don't know how. I tried Option-Click and Control-Click, but these don't work. When I do any kind of click on the Update button, it starts updating and I have to cancel it.

I found the answer! Go ahead and open he update window for apps and at the very bottom on the right of the (pop up?) menu is a tiny icon for "updates". When you click it gives you the option to NOT be notified of updates. YAY!

I thought I had found the fix but seems I keep getting the notices. I decided to move the app store icon off the front of my screen, onto the second page of apps. Then I don't see it at least! (click on the icon and keep pressing until all the icons wiggle. Then you can slide it off to the next page. Click the main button when you are done. Good luck!
Go to the Purchases pane, right click on the line with the name of the app and choose to Hide the app. But, you should never receive and update flag for this app again.
I think that if you right click on the update in the MAS Updates pane, you can also hide the update and not be hrrassed by it any longer.
All multi-touch (post-2008) trackpads are the same. So you are correct, sir.
Nothing worked, but I appreciate all the replies and help. I guess I'll have to live with the "update notice."
