using Messages with aperture
Am in a foreign country and have been usingMessages to connect with those back home. Is it possible to use this in Apertuure so that I can send pictures too?

Have you tried dragging an Image (or Images) from the Aperture Browser and dropping in the Messages compose field? Works for me.
This sends (afaik) a reduced copy of the Preview. If you want to send a full-size file, you much first create it by exporting from Aperture. Sending files via Messages is covered in Messaging Help.
