I have been reading posts on upgrading the internal 250gb hard drive with a larger one. I found some posts from 2012, but could not find a current post on this subject.  I know about the thermal sensor for the hard drive and there are software to control your internal fan.

Have they solved the problem in which I can just buy a new hard drive with the thermal sensor built into it? I have not taken aport the Imac yet to see what brand Hard drive I have. I heard you have to keep the same brand for it to work properly. Do the new hard drives now have the Termal sensor built in?  OWC suggest I buy a special cable to hook up the new Hard drive. Is th is true? Can't I use the one inside the unit?

If you can let me know what I need to purchase or get in order to upgrade the HDD on the Imac would be appreciated.

Thanks,

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), Imac 2011
