Migration assistant is taking forever using WiFi?

I just bought a new iMac and I started transfering files from my old iMac to my new one using WiFi. It is taking forever! It has been running for over 24 hours and says it will take more than 15 more hours. The transfering is running slower than the clock.

Can I stop this WiFi transfer and do it by cable without messing thing up?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3)

You should have used Firewire and Target Disk Mode. Wireless is slower than molasses in winter. If you cannot use Firewire then at least use Ethernet which is at least 3 times faster than wireless. Bear in mind that the time it takes is determined by how much data you are migrating as well as the connection speed. 500 GBs, for example, could take a couple of days or more using wireless.
