Q: Logic Studio incredibly slow
Before i get into the issue here is the setup:
os: brand new install of fully updated mountain lion (10.8.4)
install method: installed disc version of Logic Studio, then fully updated all of it via app store updates. Installed app store version of mainstage over the top of the older verion. So Logic after updates is v9.1.8. Mainstage is v2.2.2.
mods or changes: changed mainstage and logic to run in 64bit mode by "get info" and unclick "32 bit"
machine: the best retina mbp money can buy. Max storage, max ram, etc (768 storage, 16GB ram). Basically a $4000 laptop.
resource usage during test: minima;. never over 30% cpu, and plenty of ram still available
As I only have experience with logic on leopard and snow leopard I may just be out of the loop but with this current version on my hardware it would be putting it lightly to say performance is a joke. Its not a DAW its a joke program at this point. Loading up the sample data Spaceman by the Killers was depressing. The UI doesnt respond to clicks, it jumps around and will play but delayed. Its almost like theres 4 devices using the same IRQ (i know impossible). My otherwise perfect macbook pro is at this point useless when it comes to Logic. I am familiar with how logic worked on a very old mac pro running leopard and EVERYTHING was instant. Jumping around the timeline even with 100 tracks was without any noticeable delay. I know this is a laptop but it cant be just the hardware's limitations. The best way I can describe it is something is just not right. The UI is truly unusable. This is a brand new clean install of Mountain Lion. I've got my fingers crossed hoping someone has a magic fix for this. Please help!!!!
