Motor seems to start, then stops! Help!

Hello.

I got my ipod video 60gb as a gift in April and have had no problems with it. When I plugged it in to the computer last night, it had a weird sign, like the charge sign, but the little lightening bolt was more to the left than centered. Now when I plug it in to charge and the logo screen will flash and it sounds like the little motor wants to start, but after a few seconds it all dies down again.

Does anyone know if this is a battery problem or should I leave it plugged in and hope it charges enough to reset it or am I frying it by leaving it plugged in? When I unconnect it, it gives me the low battery sign

Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks
