Why does the youtube app not work neither on my ipad mini or iphone 5? Other youtube apps like jasmine don't work either!

About 3 days back, I noticed that the official youtube app stopped working both on my iphone 5 and my ipad mini. The app does launch, but I get an "error loading, tap to retry "message. When I tap, of course nothing happens.I have also noticed that other youtube apps like jasmine behave the same. The app loads up, but it's totally empty. My subsriptions, most discussed videos etc are just not there. I have also noticed that when I seach for a youtube video using google, and when I tap it, the app launches as it's supposed to do, but even then, the video does not appear or load or anything. I have had some trouble with my youtube account recently. It seems like youtube is trying to force me to "use my account as": insert gmail address and not as my custom name. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but that would be strange, as youtube works just fine on my computer. Any ideas?
