Apple ID Question

So here is a good question.

Let's say I have used my work email as my Apple ID for years, and over time other members of my household have made purchases with it and so on. We will call this ID ID1. Now let's say that my wife wants the purchases that has been made on this Apple and I do not. We will call her Apple ID ID2. Now here is the meat of the question. If I change the email of ID1 to ID2, will I be able to make a new Apple ID with ID1 so there is nothing on the account?
