Logic X support for 32 bit AU or VST

Does Logic X support 32 bit AU plugins? If not, what would that mean to Logic 9 projects that use them?

No, after several years of time it seems all Apple applications are finally 64-bit only. It is a shame that some AudioUnit vendors didn't update their plugins, the writing was on the wall for a long time.

Nope. In my excitement to check it I discovered the System Requirements state 64 bit AU plugins are required for Logic Pro X.

When Logic Pro X scans for plugins via the Audio Units Manager (if that applies to LPX) it would probably just ignore 32 bit plugins so they would would not load in. Apple must have given consideration to this scenario and I would argue you'd just have to move away from that particular plugin and adopt a 64 bit third-party plugin if the same effect could not be supported by the included LPX Apple plugins.

I guess the only third-party plugin producers that are lagging behind with 64 bit implementation (like Lennar Digital Sylenth1) would only invest in upgrading if all other DAWS meet the same 64 bit requirement.

Does anyone know if other major DAWS like ProTools, Live etc have already taken or going to take the big plunge into 64 bit?

I wonder what will hapen if you try to open an old project that uses some 32 bit stuff. Maybe it will just skip those parts? Better keep LP9 around for old stuff for a long time.

Opening projects created in earlier Logic Pro versions

You can open projects created in Logic Pro 5 or later. Projects saved in Logic Pro X are not backward-compatible with earlier Logic Pro versions.

When you open a project created in an earlier version of Logic Pro, the project is converted to a Logic Pro X project. In the Save dialog, you can select whether to save the converted project as a project package or a project folder.

Important: After a project is saved as a Logic Pro X project, it can no longer be opened in earlier versions of Logic Pro.

Hi,

I read that also Plogue Bidule (used as 64 bit AU plugin in LPX) can host 32 bit AU's but evenmore 32 & 64 bit VST's.

more info:

I haven't digged into this but if it's true that would be a really awesome solution and much cheaper than Vienna Ensemble Pro,

Maybe someone with experience with Bidule in LPX can chime in.

Best,

Rob.

Whether or not the writing was on the wall, it's insane and totally unacceptable that Apple wouldn't provide a solution for their loyal customers.

Apple makes me sorry I ever bought their products when they impose their foolishness on me and then leave me to suffer the consequences.

I don't appreciate losing hundreds of dollars in plugins I've legally purchased because Apple, from their high and mighty throne, decides to be uncooperative.

I'm furious to say the least.

Now I have to spend MORE money to fix things that weren't broken...thanks a lot Apple.
