What is your Aperture version?

If you bought Aperture 3 from the Mac App Store, it should not require a serial number, since the software sold at the AppStore is sold without a serial number. Have you updated Aperture to the latest version? One of the latest updates had a fix to stop the program from asking for the serial number.

Make sure, Aperture is installed in the "Applications" folder and not in another folder and named simply "Aperture" and nothing else. If you moved the Application, put it back. Then sign into the App Store and open the "Updates" pane. Update Aperture, if updates are vailable.

If no updates are there, and Aperture is still asking for the serial number, delete it from the Applications folder, but do not empty the trash and download it again from the AppStore and reinstall it.

But if you did not buy Aperture from the Mac AppStore, but the previous "Apple Store", then you should have received the serial by email, when you bought it online. Or if you have a boxed version, the serial is in the box. See: Pro Application Replacement Serial Numbers

The other replies are assuming you downloaded it for free. I have the same App and have the same problem. I paid $79.99 for the app. Though cheaper than buying direct from Adobe, I should have gotten the full product, but was not assigned a serial number . I've been on the phone with both Apple and Adobe. Neither wants to be bothered. I'm going to look into what can be done via other means. I'm going to lean pretty hard on them. My reason for persisting is that, not only have I paid a lot for pirated copy, but I can't even pay to upgrade to LR 5. I'd be eligible for upgrade at a reduced price if my copy had a serial number. Apple doesn't make clear in the product description that it's not an Adobe package, but a ripped copy with no serial # assigned. I'm raising **** with them about it. I got it kind of cheap, but still paid them a lot and feel I do have a right to either get the full product or a refund. I've got a feeling they're going to get sick of me and refund the money. I'll apply it toward LR 5 bought direct from Adobe. Live and learn? Apple needs to be more forthcoming when it comes to their ripped apps.
