I see I can enable the parental controls on user accounts but how does one filter out undesirable content on the main account?

By not visiting sites with that kind of content. The admin account should be used only by an adult who doesn't need supervision.
Thanks Gail, if I click that I get a message saying "You cannot enable parental controls for an administrator account. Create a new user account and enable parental controls for the new account.
Sorry azajohns,
Didn't go far enough with my test. I would suggest you set up another User account that is not set up as an Admin to be used as your main logon account if you want to use the Parental Controls. There is no need to have the Admin account logged on as the main account. You need it to update stuff and do Admin-y things, but not as a primary logon.
That's pretty much your only option. That, or Linc's option....
Cheers,
GB
Thanks Linc, yes I'd agree if this was for kids, I'm setting up my mum's machine who 'should' be the administrator but she would rather not stumble across anything untoward while surfing the net. **** filters are not always just for kids.
She can use fast-user switching to switch between accounts without having to log out. But objectionable content isn't that hard to avoid if you're reasonably selective in your browsing habits.
