Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Open > About this Mac, and tell me which OS X version you are running.
If it's 10.7 or 10.8, open > About this Mac > More Info > Storage, and you will be able to access to the space of the hard drive and what takes the space. See > http://pondini.org/OSX/LionStorage.html
If it's 10.6 or earlier, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities) and select Macintosh HD in the sidebar. You will see the amount of space used at the bottom of Disk Utility
Select it in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu.

Not Lame. Welcome to the Forums. Launch the Finder, Click on the computer under devices, you will see your "Macintosh HD" (assuming you didn't change the name). Hold the Control key and click (or right click) and choose get info.
Hey Niel, How do you keep your post count dynamic? Assuming it isn't a trade secret.
Thanks for that. I thought there might be some trick to have the system update the count as Niel has in his post (xxxx).
I looked all over and tried a bunch of different methods. About this Mac>More info>Storage tab was the best and easiest way to find it for me!
Niel puts those numbers in his posts himself. Over the years, the Apple forums have gone through at least three software changes. Each time, your post count either started over, or in the case of one switch, your post count total was wrong.
What Niel does is keep track of an actual post total since he started helping on Apple's forms since the post count the software shows under his name is not accurate.
I don't normally pay attention to it myself. I just now noticed that Jive (the software used here) only shows your point total. The previous software would show your total post count. That isn't even shown here.
Hi
I've got Mac OSX 10.6.8.
I want to find how much storage I have left. I go to Apple logo at top right---About this Mac---More Info but there's no "Storage" button. I get Hardware, Network, Software and that's it.
Highlight the hard drive icon on your desktop and press Command+I. The capacity and available space will be shown.
There is no hard drive icon on my desktop.
GEESH!! I've used Apple products for years and my new MacBook seemed to have buried a lot more things than usual...thanks for a simple fix!
On your hard drive simply press CMD+I and you can see the free space and the size of your data.
best regards
