Will my broken earphones be replaced for free?

I bought my iPhone 5, and my earphones just broke. On the part where all 3 sides connect, the ones that are connected to the earphones, the rubber encasing has been open. I don't know how it happened but it did, and it wasn't cut or anything. That wasn't the problem though, even after I found it (for a while) like that it still functioned properly, but for some reason my earphones broke. So here is my question, will it still be covered in the one year warranty and replaced for free?
