I keep getting these annoying audio ads ... no way I can find to turn them off, except to possibly silence the audio for the entire browser ...
if any of the major browsers (Safair, Firefox, or Chrome) can do this, I'd be much obliged!

Mindboggling how no-one is able to answer the question..
I am playing flash-games.. want to turn off sound for specific tabs as I am listening to Spotify or a podcast in another tab.
I am not sure why, but the volume button assigned to each tab is missing from these flash pages and the game lack a mute function so I am stuck.
I have never seen a thread fail so miserably at answering the OP's question. Come on guys, read the question. I'm wondering the same thing. I want to mute sounds coming from a game in Safari while I listen to music in another app. Any ideas?
Open System Preferences > Sound > Output
Use the slider at the bottom at the bottom of that window to adjust the volume.
You should have audio keys on your keyboard to adjust the volume with as well.
Emptying the cache can help a lot of minor problems on a browser.
sorry, I don't want to turn off the audio for the whole system ... I just want to turn off the audio on a browser, just this one app.
is there any way to turn off the audio in any of the major browsers? Safari? Firefox? Chrome?

Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to " Remove saved names and passwords".
Click "Reset Safari".
Might be a cache issue ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
I'm missing something - is there a control somewhere that allows me to adjust the audio in Safari, or turn it off entirely?
Does emptying the cache have any connection to turning the audio off or on ??

"ads" do not usually have the option for changing the audio levels. That's why they are annoying.
If you follow the instructions for deleting the Cache.db file posted previously on this thread, quit and relaunch Safari, the ads may disappear.
Sites you have recently visited may still be in the cache. Deleting the cache is a typical way of troubleshooting issues with browsers. You will not lose any data as a result of deleting the cache.
An empty cache won't silence the audio, no - nor can cached items play without a page telling them to.
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/audiohijackpro/ can 'hijack' & then mute the audio from a browser - it's a trial, but unless you're recording, no need to pay for it, from what I see.
Use the legacy page there for 10.6.
It works here, tested briefly with Flash & HTML5 videos. No permanent install , just run the app before starting browsers.

What is it about AHP that no longer works ?.
I think that he means, Does the Sound Controler have an option to turn off all sounds but iTunes.
