The app finds logic's project fine and navigates around it without issue, so I'm guessing its setup correctly. But when I try to use either the keyboard or a drum pad to play an software instrument the lag time is horrible. Unusable actually. Is there a way to optimize this somehow??

The connection is done via Wifi. If there is significant traffic on the network, you will have a lag. Physics...
I understand how it works. I use many different iPad controllers (touchOSC, Cubase Remote, Midi Designer, etc) and none of the them have any noticable latencey. This is my wi fi at home, no traffic while trying this. Still a lag, almost a half second delay between hitting a key on the pad and hearing the sound in Logic Pro.
I had this problem at first too. Going into the Control Surface setup in Logic and deleting my TouchOSC entries solved it immediately.
it would actually be very very very nice (and necessary!) if apple would make an upgrade so we could connect our ipad with the lighting/usb cable to avoid this horrible latency problem that I've also experienced with the drum pad
Have you tried using Bluetooth instead?

I have no lag at all on my WiFi connection, though there are other problems with Logic Remote v 1.01
I accidentally discovered a workaround.
It works only with my Air 2 LTE (and does not with my iPad 2 WiFi ).
I enabled Personal Hotspot, turned WiFi off and hooked up USB directly to Mac mini.
I could connect the app to Logic X and it worked almost delay free.
Sadly, other issues like unexpected disconnections and dropouts make this app next to unusable. Pity, the potential is obvious.
