Mounting Hard Drive Physically after Airport Extreme

I have a 4TB USB 3.0 external hard drive that I have had connected to my airport extreme and accessing. When I connect directly to my Mac the drive does not mount. How do I make this drive visible when physically connected?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Did you try mounting it manually:

Open Disk Utility in Applications\Utilities

Find the disk and click the mount button

I tried this but the disk does not appear as a seletion in the disk utility.
