Macbook Pro 15.4 2010 i5 keeps randomly shutting down. Help?

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong discussion, or if there is already one about this already out there but I have recently brought a Macbook Pro 2010 i5 2.4GHZ running Mountain Lion and since I have had it, it has randomly turned off and restarted a couple of times and I wanted to know whether this was a problem that could be resolved. When the mac turns back on, it gives me the option to see the error report, so here is that:

Also I dont really know whether there is anything up there that I shouldn't have put online because im new to macs so if there is then can someone please tell me? Thank you 🙂

Any help with this would be greatly apprechiated!

Also I dont have any install disks for any programs on my Mac, or any Mountain Lion disks, so if your suggestion is to re-install Mountain Lion then could you please also let me know if there is any way to save these programs and reinstall the OS without disks.

Many Thanks,

Conor

Welcome to Apple Support Communities

You have a Mid 2010 15-inch MacBook Pro, and the log is showing a problem with your NVIDIA GPU. If you have a look at the first lines, you will see "GPU Panic", that indicates a GPU problem.

Mid 2010 15-inch MacBooks Pro have got a defective NVIDIA GPU that may cause unexpected restarts, black screens, kernel panics... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088

Fortunately, Apple is repairing all of those MacBooks Pro for free if it was purchased less than 3 years ago, so make a backup of your data with Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner or Disk Utility's Restore feature, and take it to an Apple Store or reseller. Print the log in case Apple refuses to repair the MacBook Pro

Since I made the update of OSX Maverick three weeks ago, once every two days the screen of my mac become black, than the mac turn off and ristart telling me that there was a problem, so the computer had to switch off.

I would like to know if my problem is really the same of conoreggy123, or if no which problem is it?

Then, if the problem is the same, as I think, I would like to ask you if apple should fix my mac free of charge like you suggested in the post?

Many thanks,

Matteo

While your computer is over 3 years old, I would make a Genius Bar appointment. Testing is supposedly free and based on some posts in the communities, the store manager apparently has some leeway on fixing computers that are outside the 3 year period. Print the crash report and take it with you.
