MacBook Pro won't boot from Snow Leopard DVD?

Hi

Can someone help please! I'm trying to restore a 2011 MacBook Pro with my Snow Leopard DVD to return to a retailer - but it won't boot from the disc? I had previously been trying to restore it to Lion, but realised as I couldn't that it must not have shipped with it. I'd already erased the HD ready.

When I try to boot from the disc, I get three beeps, repeating over and over.

I'm sure it was a French machine as its AZERTY (hence why it's going back, another story). Could this be a factor?!

Any help would be gratefully received! It's driving me nuts!!

Thanks for the link, but there's no beeps without the DVD in - it just goes to the Mac OSX Utilities where I can reinstall/erase etc?

It's all Lion based though - so does that suggest it DID ship with 10.7??

The disk that you are using, is it the one that came with the MBP? Installation disks are model specific.

May have Sussex the problem - my SL DVD is 10.6.0 - so too old for MBP... Will see if my work iMac one is newer tomorrow.

But also, this means I got sold a Mac that would have been (or is) very hard to restore on my own as no DVD came with it, and Lion is tied to another account!

Thanks - saw your reply too late!

Think that is the issue. Will try iMac ones, but tempted to send back as is. Been a lot of hassle witj it along the way so think they should sort it to be honest.

The iMac DVD will NOT work. You will need a DVD that is MODEL SPECIFIC. Replacement disks can be ordered from Apple. You need to give them the serial number of the MBP and there is a fee.

Okay - won't waste time with that then! Will most likely send as is.

Had thought about trying Target Disk Mode but may not be worth it. They have to wipe again anyway no doubt.

Just send it back as is. If it originally had Lion installed when new, installed at the factory, then let the seller worry about it. If it had Snow Leopard originally installed and the seller did not supply the original system discs then again let them worry about it.
