External video (for example Firewire Video Output or Blackmagic Support) was broken in Logic 9 64bit, but working in 32bit. I assumed that it would be fixed in LX - but it appears to have been removed entirely. Is this correct? If so... then... hm. Not sure where I go, now.

Double bump.. This is crazy. I'd have assumed that it would be using the same type of AV out that FCPX has. Though apparently that wasn't in the first release. Anyone?
Yes, its gone, but Logic Pro X allows you to use a second monitor a video out and e.g. every MacBook Pro has HDMI out, which is.more flexible and generic than support for.a specific hardware.
Er hem. No it's not more flexible in a studio environment where you are outputting HD video to an external display via a Blackmagic decklink or Intenstiy etc. My second and third monitors are for other duties and aren't easy for the client to watch in any case.
Logic 9 (32bit) supported external solutions. So this is a giant leap backwards. As I mentioned, FCPX has an AV out option which should have been bolted onto Logic.
Logic doesn't have its own video engine, it only uses what OS X provides.
Nor did it have one in 9.1.8 however it supported the digital cinema desktop framework which supported external display support.
My point is that we should have one now. The same as FCPX which has the AV out option. A mac OSX feature.
Indeed, and other Pro Audio Apps (Nuendo for example) still support external video - and indeed are falling over themselves to do so - for the simple reason that it is essential for professional post-production workflow. IMHO.
I think this is a massive step backwards.
Either they've taken it out for good and expect you to purchase/use FCPX or it's something that will show up in a future upgrade... the problem is.. you'll never know until it does or doesn't happen.
I do have FCP, but you cannot sync it to Logic for presentation playback. I am now looking at VJ apps to augment Logic for shows... It's either that or change horses totally, which I am loath to do.

It's pretty obvious Pro Support is on the wane.
yeah, dedicated video processing and output is better for CPU usuage (and RAM?) - try running a 1080 90min video with a huge scoring session. lag and drops.
yeah, fingers crossed. Maybe like FC X they're add stuff as time goes on, but who knows!? Unless the new Mac Pro machine handles video so well out of thunder bolt that it's pointless to use a video device?
You still need a "video device" if you wish to send composite, S-Video, component, SDI... and if you need to "genlock" playback to a wider video system. For many of us, unloading video processing onto an external box is essential.
Looks like it's probably more a lack of support at the OS level than Logic missing the feature. Unfortunately they have dropped the ball when they updated Quicktime to the new libraries that are replacing it. Hopefully they will get it working at some point but it doesn't seem like they consider QT much of a priority any more.
