    Hey guys,

First time poster lol. But I just got iMessage to activate thanks to the help of Steve. I had to do this process a couple of times to work but if it doesn't work for you the first time don't give up. There are also a couple of things you can try that seemed to work for me.

    1) Confirm your phone number. In Settings > Phone. Make sure that the My Number field has the correct phone number with +1 at the beginning of it.

    2) Sign out of iCloud. In Settings > iCloud > Sign Out.

    3) Sign out of iTunes & App Store. In Settings > iTunes & App Store > Tap your AppleID > Sign Out.

    4) Try the process again. It may take a couple of tries but the hex string will show up in the logs.

    Hope this hels you guys.

    Cheers.

For people still struggling with the imessage activation method described multiple times above and found here, hang in there - it works but is very finicky (I just spent my entire day on this and got it after the 20'th attempt). Things that I fixed before it worked for me: 1) make sure there is a "+" in front of the one on your number in settings -- phone -- my number, 2) make sure your are using the correct hex str code!! there may be multiple within the log, you have to use the latest (ie. last) one. These methods are both described above but I thought I would reiterate as these seemed to have made the difference for me. If you are not getting a hex str code, you need to read the instructions again and do everything to a T.

Good luck! and congrats on leaving the big 3

PS. one method to expedite the "enabling/disabling" and "recording" process can be found here. This allows you to add buttons for enabling and recording under Settings -- Cellular -- telephony logging; this saves you dialling in the codes every time.

    Just found this: http://www.windmobile.ca/my-wind/faq/devices#e9a34877-c3ee-6924-b2e4-ff0300f64c5 1

Please note: at this time, the use of FaceTime and iMessage on compatible WIND network iPhones will function with the use of an Apple ID. Currently, WIND Mobile is not an authorized dealer of Apple Canada, as a result, certain proprietary software has not been made available to WIND to the fullest extent in an official capacity. The original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4, iPhone4s are not compatible with the WIND network.

The whole process works up until I get the hex str code, my sender shows as a Toronto phone number rather than "+447786205094" I've done all the steps properly and everything but I'm just wondering if "sender" will ever show up as that number and if it absolutely has to be that number?

So on my 20th attempt it worked! I think it's because I didn't wait 48 hours after making the switch to wind beforehand. Just wondering if anybody knows whether I can delete the logs off of my computer and my phone somehow?

Has anyone try this process as of late? Can anyone tell me if it worked for them or not?

Hey, I did this process just under two weeks ago and I can tell you that 48 hours after switching to wind, I did the process once more the way you're supposed to do it and the right code showed up. So yes, as of late I'm sure it still works.

Still not working for me :/ It seems most people figure that activating iMessage (after enabling logging) should only take a few minutes. I've been waiting two hours now, "Waiting for activation..." I've been with Wind for over a year and it's been three or four days since I bought my iPhone outright to replace my Android, so there's no applicable 48 hour wait period. How long should I be waiting for this step??

**Also I've left FaceTime off during this process just in case.

EDIT::    So I've just realized that Steve of theonlinemac.com has updated his website to announce that, apparently, none of this works anymore. Great.

Who do I get to thank for this? Wind, or Apple? And more importantly, what does any would-be iPhone user on Wind do from this point?

Did you happen to see my last post? I think this issue is related to Wind Mobile.

I did, indeed. I had also seen it on Wind's website, but I figured that was all Wind was obligated to say on the matter - and that following Steve's method would clear up the issues, anyway. Apparently that's no longer the case? I suppose this is one of those small inconveniences that come with Wind's undeniable good value, as visual voicemail is.

Okay cool! I'm glad that you were able to get the answers you wanted! Maybe one day this issue will be resolved. Until then, is anyone using a adequate alternative solution?

just great. Love it when things are working and then companies make them not work. Looks like I won't be with Wind much longer

As of July 7th this site was back up and running.

This thread is extensive. To anyone just getting to it...read it/skim through it al first.

I made the mistake of rushing to do it..only to have later comments better help and explain.
