The 5th generation iPod touch needs iTunes 10.7 or later which requires Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer. You have to upgrade to Snow Leopard.

First, check that your Mac is compatible > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 If it is, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

Then, make a backup of your data, insert the disc and upgrade to Snow Leopard. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, and install the latest version. You may need to run Software Update again in order to install the most recent iTunes version.

If you want to install iTunes 10.7 because you don't like the interface, download it from the Apple website > http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1576

Really Chris??? You know your comment is less than helpful and it's unappreciated. FYI - I bought the Ipod touch as a refurbished unit from the WalMart website. So I could not read the side of the box before buying. And, the website doesn't mention what operating system that the unit will, or will not, work with. You should take a minute and think before you post something.

"Lighten up, Francis" (google it if you don't know what this means)

Glad I could help! 🙂

This is something you need to take up with Walmart.

Perhaps you should take a minute and do simple research before spending +$200 on something...

Good luck!
