Why audio on the latest 10.8.4 sounds different over 10.6.8

Hi

I just upgraded my system OS 10.6.8 to the latest 10.8.4, and I found that audio on the 10.8.4 sounds different.

I did some tests and I can say that audio when listening on the 10.8.4 has less bass content and the hi-mids are more agressive.

I running the audio studio on my Mac Pro and this was a big dissapointment for me.

Also I rendered audio file from Logic Pro 9 on the both system and they are the same, but when you listening on the 10.6.8 it sounds correct while on 10.8.4 sounds different. I have the same audio drivers from RME Fireface 800 on both systems. In tests I used identical Logic arrangement file on both systems.

I just don't like the sound on the new system at all. It is worse than it was on the 10.6.8.

I switched to the Snow Leopard again and I regret that I puchased your latest OS. Why it is done? Apple?

Logic Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

I found more about this issue.

It comes from Leon OS.

It looks like mastering engineers cares more about this problem.

It looks like this problem affected interfaces with USB and Firewire on 64 bit OS, because they use CoreAudio driver.

TDM systems are not affected.

There is some sample rate conversion going on behind the scenes on the 64 bit OS.

Back to Snow Leopard.

why should it be surprising if two operating systems handle audio slightly differently?

this is being reported as if its a fault.

this only relates to the audio directly out of the headphone jack, right?

I've done the phase/line up test (as did a poster on the link) with audio bounced out 4 or so older OS X operating systems (digging out old sessions) and they all cancel out.

extraordinary.

I'm running 10.7, held off 10.8 because it too quickly for all pro audio software to be immediately compatible. I'm still waiting for all the stuff I use to be 10.8 friendly, but anyway...

the issue listed, here / above, does not certainly mean something is amiss in 10.8. can you imagine the chaos, if it were true, at 100,000s music and video houses across the world?

its unlikely this issue emanates from where it seems.

Yes I did of course. If industry mixed and mastered same song sounds different on the same drivers and different OS there i a bug. I checked with my friends the difference and everybody confirmed the difference.

I did all tests and if you render files on two OSX in the Logic, it will null. But if you take it after the converters it will not null.

What exactly is different? Stereo phases are different from the 10.6.8. Bass on the 10.8.5 is boomy and don't have a deepness. Top Highs has more domination over 10.6.8.

And finally I installed Mavericks and the problem still persists.

i think you're barking up the wrong tree. do you know that expression?

i'm no apple fan-boy/girl/sycophant.

i use mac out of habit/history.

it's not the issue you think it is.

what i mean is, there is NO WAY audio is different (digitally) via various operating systems and interfaces.

audio is converted to numbers. and numbers are numbers.

if it sounds different, so be it, but the numbers don't change.
