Q: Is Panasonic  Lumix DMC-GH3 Supported

I've read on this Apple page http://help.apple.com/finalcutpro/cameras/en/index.html?  where the Panasonic DMC-G3 -  but is that the same as the GH3?  Just need to verifiy with certainty.  They are two separate cameras, thanks

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), considering 21.5 or 27 imac

    Hello Albert,

I believe the list you found does not include the DMC-GH3 (does show the GH2).  That said, I have the GH3 and use Final Cut Pro X without any issues.

    Kind regards,

    Jeff

Brilliant thanks.  I have shot on video cameras all my life and am having angst over getting the GH3 because I am used to zooming with right hand toggle.  I just had the canon Xa 20 in my hands, great camera with on board XLR inputs.   Either way the video will be great.

Albert, here's an example of video I shot using the GH3 of the 4th of July fireworks a few weeks ago...

    http://youtu.be/fMf2Vo0c9ro

It was shot at 1080 \ 30fps, 72Mbps using the Lumix 12-35 f2.8 lens and a monopod.  Post was done in FCP-X

    Excellent Jeff.

I just bought the same camera with the same lens.

Can I know, for the fireworks, did you max the zoom to 35mm ?

Can I also know what is your settings for the F stop number, ISO and shutter speed (I assume is 1/60 since your frame rate is 30 fps) ?

    Thanks

    Hi Ryan,

Congratulations on your purchase!  I'm sure you're going to like both the camera and lens.

I shot the video in "P" (Program) mode which allows the camera to adjust both the shutter and aperture.  I've had very good results with this setting.  You'll find it on Pg 1, 4th item of the Video Menu.  ISO was set to auto as well.  By the way I'm pretty sure you can adjust the shutter and aperture while shooting video in the "P" mode.

    Hope that helps!

    Kind regards

    Jeff

PS: I recently shot video of a bicycle criterion race (closed course on city streets) and used the same settings; great results.

Thanks Jeff for being very helpful.

I was thinking whether I should get the 35-100/F2.8 lens as I think I want to shoot the fireworks closer. I assume you must have reached the end of the 35 mm, right ?

Am surprised you get such great results even though you set all to auto as the "P" Program mode is some what kinda like an auto too.

    Thanks again, Jeff.

    Cheers

    Hi Ryan,

Sorry I forgot you did ask about the zoom as well.  I used the 12-35 f2.8 zoom because I wanted to be sure to capture the full view of the sky and I was close to the fireworks display.  I also have the 35-100 f2.8 and might try it next time :-)

Good luck with your future projects.

    Jeff
