Do you actually have an Apple TV or another device that you can Airplay content to?
If so, are both devices connected to the same network?
Diesel: I do have an Apple TV and both are on same network, and atv is brand new and is set for airplay.
Well I went step by step through the troubleshooting guide and still nothing. Are we sure that the new ipad 4 works with the ATV? Frustrated and ready to send ATV back and just go buy the digital adapter. Have been reading and Trying things for two days now with no results...........
Yes, it definitely works with the Apple TV.
Something on the network is preventing the two devices from seeing one another.
Are you certain they are connecting to the same network?
If there is a firewall on the router, try disabling it... should not be a factor, but worth ruling out.
I have an iPad 2 and there is no airplay icon and all other devices are working fine????
Has the troubleshooting steps in the link above been tried? If not, start there.
Hi .
Power cycled the BT home hub router and airplay icon returned. I never ususally power the router off so something obviously changed butits all fine now. Thanks for the help.
Hi mine was not working but just messed about a bit on iphone and found it if you flick your phone up from the bottom of the screen its brings a menu up its on there you can choose to put airplay on what device you want it to play on hope this helps
As swiftymotor also said, I found it by accident too on ipad 3 after a software update, before the update I only had to double click the home button to bring up the control menu.
In landscape mode, use any finger and starting from the outside margin/border of your ipad, anywhere along its length, just roll your finger in upwards direction to reveal the control menu - the icon for airplay will obviously only show once you have other devices to connect to , ie ATV etc
Sorry if above seems to be spelt out for a child but some of us, including me who is new to
Apple products, need instructions to follow easily !
I had the missing icon problem, but found a solution worth trying.
I was trying to airplay to Apple TV.
Apparently when Apple TV is updated, the default is Airplay OFF.
Airplay is an option on the configurations page.
Once I turned it back on, the icon reappeared on my iPad, and Airplay worked again.
your advice to flick my screen up solved the problem!!!!
I found the best solution is unplug or restart the Apple router, Apple TV, and my computer. However I do note that my computer runs hotter with airplay (the fan turns on a few minites after using airplay. Have anyone had this experience?
Another useful thing to do is check that "wireless isolation" is switched OFF on the wireless router. Otherwise the devices will not talk to each other even when connected on the same network. Log into your router via its IP address eg 192.168.0.1 etc. Ensure wireless isolation is OFF in the wireless settings menu.
My Airplay returned!
