I'm using "Find my Iphone" application to track my stolen Iphone, but says tracking will only take effect when the devices is connected to the internet. Does that mean the theif can use my phone safely without being caught as long as he is not online?

Dear all,

Any one can help? Service providers failed to render me any help. Through "find my iphone" I caught him only once when he opened it for a very short time then he offed it since then, may be because of the message I put that (this device is stolen, please call xxxxxxxx)!!!

All the best

iPhone 4

Thanks dear CKuan, if he formatted my phone and installed a new software, does that mean I can not track him any more? Can the serial No. help in this regards? I tried the serial NO. option using my Apple ID, but Apple records tells me that " this serial no. is registered to another ID!! does that mean he wiped mine and registered his?

Thanks

That is correct; if the iPhone is erased, you cannot track it thereafter.

No. An iPhone cannot be tracked solely by its serial number. The serial number will only be of help to the police in identifying you as the owner of the iPhone should they be fortunate enough to recover it.
