How do I fill column with a series of numbers?
How do I fill column with a series of numbers?
Hi Jody,
Enter values in the first two Cells of a Column:
Drag the Fill Handle down (the small white circle at the bottom right of Cell A3 in this screen shot)
To get this:
Column B shows how to Fill Down by odd numbers (start with 1 and 3, then Fill Down using Cells B2 and B3).
Column C shows how to fill Down in multiples of 5.
Regards,
Ian.
Jody,
Do you still have a question regarding filling a pattern in Numbers? I should have mentioned the free, downloadable , Users' Guide you can get here:
http://support.apple.com/manuals/#numbers
This is a searchable document in PDF which is handy for getting quick assistance.

Wayne
Regrettably this no longer works in Numbers 3.0.1.
I guess I'm back to Excel
Jody,
D. Scott is incorrect. The Fill feature is alive and well in Numbers 3, but the Fill Handle has moved from the corner to the middle of the border. I used to be a little open circle. Now it is a little yellow circle.
Jerry
Don't believe everything you read. You most certainly CAN fill down with a series of numbers. In Numbers '09 you filled by grabbing the little circle in the bottom right of the slection box. In Numbers 3, the fill handle is in the center of the edge of the selection box. Works the same.
Grab and drag down on the little yellow dot like the one shown in the screenshot below:
That's what I thought, Jerrold, until I got bizarre results from dragging.
You can see screenshots in my other post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5634003?answerId=24041153022#24041153022
If you can show me what I'm doing wrong I'd LOVE to see this feature working.
Why would you expect hidden rows to be filled? The feature works exactly the same in both versions.
Jerry
Not quite the same. I did a test. It is in the other post. The difference reminds me of what was mentioned in a post a little while ago about pasting across hidden columns. It appears the designers made a change in how the app works when rows/columns are hidden.
So I gather this works fine in Numbers 3 if no rows are hidden. But if rows are hidden, Numbers 3 gives results different from Numbers 2.3.
SG
Correct.
