Why is the Apple Mac Developer portal down, and for how long?

I cannot access the Mac Developer resources this morning.

With a company as advannced as Apple, I would expect them to be able to roll out web updates

seamlessly.

I don't like being out in the cold.

I want to download the Mavericks Beta.

I want an *estimate* of when I will be able to provision new devices so I can *plan*, not a display of what portions of the irreplaceable portal are *still unavailable*.

I think I can safely say that everyone has particular features that they need that are not currently available, and would like to know about *when* those features are likely to be back online. I understand that Apple might not want to be pinned down by something so definite, but it's been a week.

One more thing: using the time of the last page refresh as "time updated" is literally window dressing. That entry should be reserved for the time of the most *recent change made by Apple to the status board".

An intruder tried to get our logins so Apple shut the site down immediately (I was halfway through downloading WWDC videos when they went down).

They say they are completely overhauling the site to make it more secure, but it's taking longer than they expected.

I was finally able to log in this evening but the only video I could find was last year's keynote address. They say the other videos aren't available yet.

It looks like they're finally *starting* to come back up...

I admit that this thread has become somewhat retrograde. But when I started it, I asked two questions. We maybe sort of know what the first answer is, to some extent. We remain almost entirely clueless as to the second. If I had the ability, I would probably close the thread at this point. I have empathy for those suffereing while it's down, and the minute I turn away it will probably come back up. Best wishes for us all. (doug)

In response to etresoft...(Don't muddy the waters). For those of us that develop at the enterprise level, an email when an undisclosed estimate of down time tells me that Apple's development team does not grab the concept of an SLA. How do you honestly run one of the most effective Software companies in the world and tell your Enterprise Developers that you have a plan but don't know the system will be back online. Their priorities are based on the assumption that their customer base is 12 years old and can suffer the downtime. As oppossed to the realitye that like 'Deap Sea' who supports 1000's of customers or myself that has a 207 current user base needs the portal to deploy new products.

To me it's obvious that the person in charge has not concept of time and probably has a prescription for Medical Cali ganja. Even Eric "The Closet Kings" Justice department is more efficient at Targeting political oponents.

Apple, I am do for a career change, let me know if you need someone with Enterprise Experience to show you how to exists profitably in the business world and take you the next level.

Btw, you need to retire the group of people responsible for this down time. Obviously there was no contingency.

Etresoft, your comments are amusing. Based on the tone of your response, I assume that you are a corporate developer. The only projects that would budget such a large buffer would be capital expense project. At our company we segment the development of projects using the Agile method. Your attempt to disect a post without first asking the development method speaks volumes about your inexperience. For your information, my first development project targeted the Apple Lisa. Now i ask that you "try again". LOL

I would answer your other comments but spending more time educating you would be fruitless and annoying.

No, you've got it backwards. It is the inexperienced and/or fake developers who are trying to make this into an issue. There are those of us who remember what it was like before the developer portal even existed. There are those of us who were professional software engineers before the web even existed.

Apple does not read these forums. If you want to apply for a job at Apple, go right ahead: http://www.apple.com/jobs/us/index.html

I should warn you that Apple just reported $ 6.9 billion in profit for the past 3 months. Apple really doesn't need any help in that area.
