Q: Why is the Apple Mac Developer portal down, and for how long?

I cannot access the Mac Developer resources this morning.

With a company as advannced as Apple, I would expect them to be able to roll out web updates

seamlessly.

I don't like being out in the cold.

I want to download the Mavericks Beta.

iTunes Connect is not dependent on the developer portal.

Did anyone else have an account expire during this outage? Mine was set to expire on July 19th and Apple said they would extend our accounts and keep the apps on the store. But when I opened the App Store to download one of my free apps, "iMarch" it gave me the message, "The item you tried to buy is no longer available". Anyone else have a similar issue?

Yeah... I think it's all about the betas, which seem to be more out of control, across the board, than ever. Someone higher up got fed up and made it someone's problem...take it all down until it's fixed.

If they would crack down on the obvious "I'm a developer I paid the $100 so how do I fix my iPhone that I loaded with the beta illegally and now my iPhone doesn't work" that would be nice.  (and the new forum software).

Oh joy.. this wild looking web page may indicate corrupted disk data. Lets hope they have a good backup.

So this may take more than a few days..

They're showing the old logos, so it's more likely something they fished off a thumbdrive from someone's locker to act as a placeholder.

Remember, if they had enough sense/skill to have a reliable and tested backup, the site(s) involved wouldn't have been so easy to run into a ditch. Now they're stuck and the best they can do in the mean time is to hang out a rather weak temporarily out of order sign.

If everything is down.  How are they rotating apps on the appstore...

I just had one of my apps placed in a good spot on Saturday night....  it wasn't there on Friday.

Everything about the beta is down....and the forums, tools, etc.

iTC and reviews are separate and still up. The store is still up, but if it went down, you can believe they'd be acting a lot quicker to get things back online.

My iTC is saying my subscription expired on July 19, but I thought they extended the expiration date by one week. What's going on?

These things (major incidents) can happen to any company and Apple is no exception. It's obvious that this incident is related to (very) core systems of the developer portal and not just for some of the front end systems. And taking into consideration the amount of data we are talking about, I wouldn't be surprised if it would take several days more (or weeks in worst case) to get systems back online again.

Even though the developer portal might be the most important portal for you, you have to understand that it is (the developer portal) not the core business system for the Apple and as such might not be covered with the tightest Service Level Agreements (SLA) or business recovery procedures (RTO, RPO etc.)

None of us knows really what has happened; whether it's just a common incident (data corruption, data center failure etc),  security issue or complete upgrade of the developer portal itself being a total disaster (I sure hope that it's not the second one…).

Regardless of what has happened, we are talking about enormous amount of data and if that (whole thing) needs to be restored, it's not going to happen within hours or within just couple of days.

My advice is that while waiting for the developer portal to become online again, do something more practical than just press the refresh button; write a couple of lines of code for example :D. But do not plan your Monday relying on the developer portal (being online).

The sooner the better, it will eventually be online again.

The developer portal is available on a best-effort basis.

    There is no SLA.
