    Hi Van,

    From an Apple Support page:

Can I change the name of my Apple ID?
Yes. For example, if you get a new email address, you can change your Apple ID from your old address to your new address. For more information, follow the steps in this article.

Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs cannot be renamed.

Click on the link for instructions. I know you cannot change an existing @mac or @me to something else, but not sure if you can change from something else to an @mac, @me, @iCloud.com.....

I'd say, give it try and see what happens. Also, just so you know - even if the email address that is being used for your Apple ID is defunct, you can still use it for your Apple ID. It's just a name.....you can change your email address within your Apple ID profile to a newer one (the @iCloud.com is already assigned to your existing Apple ID, so you wouldn't need to update that.

Take a look at the link and post back with any questions!

    Cheers,

    Thankyou Gail,

yes I had visited the appleid.apple.com page and attempted to change the Apple Id.

    this  paragraph however states....

"Ensure that the email address you enter:

Is not an address that ends in @mac.com. @me.com, or @icloud.com..."

which is silly because it defeats the purpose of aligning ID and email in the first place,

especially if you want to just use your apple email address only.

Still, Itunes allows my @icloud.com to be used as an id. my iphone and ipad have my

@live.com.au fixed as my ID though.

This is all not a real issue though because my @icloud is working fine. just be nice to

root out my other addresses so I can and know/use my @icloud.com address.

thankyou you for your help anyway Gail

    Hi Van,

Well, if you can sign onto iTunes with the @iCloud.com ID, then you can sign on to your devices with it as well. Once you mentioned it, I believe that your iCloud.com is an Apple ID - i.e., you can go to the Manage Your Apple ID page, type in your @iCloud.com email address as your Apple ID, type in your normal Apple ID passcode, and it will open with that logon.

So, that means that you can logon with that same ID to everything - iTunes & App Store, iCloud, Mail, etc.

See if that works for what you need....

    Cheers,

    Hi again,

I just logged on to Manage Your Apple ID with my iCloud.com addess, and it is an alias for your existing Apple ID (whatever it is). So, that means you can use your @iCloud.com address instead of your old Apple ID even though it still shows up as your "Apple ID" in your Manage profile.

Hope that I didn't totally confuse you! It's all kind of confusing....
