I just updated my system to 10.6.8, and since then I cannot use the mail application. I get a message telling me that I have mail 3.6 and I cannot use this version of mail with the Mac OS X. All my mail is there, I really need to access it, any ideas??

I think you wanted to say Mail 4.6, or is Mail 3.6 right? There's a bug in OS X 10.6.8 that may make Mail stop working after updating to 10.6.8. Apple has got the steps to fix that > http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4424?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Hi thanks for replying. My mail is definitely 3.6, I will check out the link you gave and hope I can work out how to fix it!
You have a Mail version that doesn't work with Snow Leopard. The steps of that website should work in this case
Brilliant. Found in my applications folder the old version 3.6 and the newer version 4.6 which appeared as my upgrade happened, I have had to remove the old version form the dock and launch the new version. Can now access my mail, thanks a bunch 🙂
