Q: Photos on a network drive

How can I browse photos that are on a network drive using iPad 4 without copying them to the iPad? I have about 3000 pictures that would not be able to all fit on the iPad.

Ideally, I want ot be able to use iPhoto or Aperture to edit these photos natively, that is, without removing them from the network drive.

iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.1.4

Aperture does not support a library on a remote volume: Use locally mounted Mac OS X Extended volumes for your Aperture library
