Waveform doesn't show up in Logic Pro X

Hey everyone,

So when I have a keyboard hooked up to my macbook pro 15" (mid 2009), and I am able to record and everything sounds and works great except the waveform doesn't show up. Instead of the waveform all I see is small rectangles/lines where the waveform should be. I tried zooming and the waveform zoom button, but no luck. Does anyone know how to fix this in Logic Pro X, because all the videos/threads I can find for this problem are for Logic Pro 9 which doesn't help me. Thanks everyone

Logic Pro X, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

You are using a Software Instrument called Grand Piano and Pad and you have recorded Midi data and not audio data... There are no waveforms for Midi data as it is information sent to the Software Instrument that plays it..

If you created an Audio track and then recorded your voice.. you would be recording Audio data and then you would see a waveform....

I suggest you take some time to read the User Guide and learn the differences between Midi and Audio... See under Logic's Help menu option...

No.. Audio tracks are for recording Audio... such as voice or guitars etc... through Mics... or for playing back Apple Audio Loops.. or wave files for example.

Software Instrument tracks are for sending and recording Midi data from/to Software Instruments or if you use an external Midi Instrument track for recording and sending midi data to and from Midi hardware. Again midi data is not audio data.. Totally different.

Again , please read the user guide from the beginning. It will help explain much more about all of this for you...
