"You must have at least 10GB of free space available" when I have 114GB free

Long time no see Apple Support,

I've just spent this morning doing some much needed maintenance to my Macbook Pro. I've been deleteing tons of files and I am getting ready to do my first battery calibration in 2 years! I was also planning on setting up Windows 7 again since my work needs it and also I want to play some games.

However, upon opening Boot Camp Assistant it tells me I do not have enough space and gives me the "You must have at least 10GB of free space available" message. Which is wrong because I have 114GB free on my Macintosh HD.

I've spent some time googling this but a lot the people having this issue had little space left (20GB) but that is not the case for me...

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ewan

Excuse me? I thought people were meant to be helpful here and not just randomly criticise - hense the name 'Apple Support Communities'. I've solved my problem without formating by simplying manually partitioning and using rEFInd.

I've said what I have to say and no, I'm not playing like a child? If you don't like my solution then don't say anything? You're the same in every reply - assume everything they are doing is wrong.

There are some Mac OS files on the last 10 Gbytes you want to place Bootcamp. Defragmenting is a good idea but it's also bad because the disk is under pressure for a long time. Better having an updated backup, reinitialize the HD and restore the Mac OS. No Mac OS file should into the 114 Gbyte free space.

Please note: normally, those files are moved by Bootcamp Assistant prior to create the BC patition but sometimes it fails.

Cheers

Simon
