Q: does appleworks import dbf files

I rather doubt it it, though it's possible there may be a translator with the older versions. But your signature says you have Lion - you can't run AW on that. If you have if working on another computer you can only try.

It's been reported that NeoOffice can open these files - it's free so it may be worth a try.

According to FileInfo AppleWorks will not but NeoOffice or OpenOffice will:

I can confirm that .dbf files cam be opened in NeoOffice and OpenOffice. LibreOffice also lists dBASE (.dbf) as one of the many file types it can open.
