In Aperture 3 (3.4.5), the Filter HUD settings are different for every container one searches in. Is there any way to copy the Filter HUD settings to other container searches, or to set a default Filter HUD?

Only by using smart albums instead. You could define a standard smart album as a template and copy this, when you want to search. Then move the album to any container you like and change the source of the album.
Thanks. I'll post an enhancement request. I use filtering a lot, as I store a lot of information in the caption field.
