This question is not wi-fi related.

Lately we have noticed while using App's, the unit drops out to the main screen.  These apps don't need wi-fi to operate. It appears to do this more on some apps than others.  It is frustrating because some apps (games) loose "lives" each time it does this, therefore locking you out of the game for a period of time.  This also happens when using Safari on wifi, but not as often.

We have updated to the latest version of the OS, but the problem still occurs.   Do we need to reset to factory settings and reinstall files? Or is there an easier solution to this glitch?

Your memory is probably tapped out and you can try freeing some of it this way. In order....

    Go to Settings>Safari>Cookies and Data.

Close all apps in the recents tray. Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

See if that makes a difference.

You're welcome. Just keep those steps in mind if the iPad apps start crashing on you again.
