Migration Assistant - Sony Vaio to MacBook Pro, No Progress or Estimate

Hi, I'm a brand new Mac user.

I'm excited to transfer my music and photos from my Sony Vaio to my new MacBook Pro wirelessly via Migration Assistant. Unfortunately, every time I try, I get no progress bar or estimated time at all. What gives?

The files I'd like to transfer total around 140 GB. I realize that the transfer will take a lot of time, but the guy at the Apple Store said it would be better than buying a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter for just this single use.

Is there something I'm missing? I don't think the transfer really even starts. When I cancel it, and then check my music and pictures folders on my MacBook, they're still empty.

Unfortunately, after following the guide posted by Bennet-Adler, I'm still having the same problem. Windows Firewall and AVG Anti-Virus are both disabled on the PC. Every time it actually says, "Transfering Joseph's music," it just sits there with no progress bar or estimated time. It's an empty progress bar with no accompanying text.

Hmm. Okay. Sounds like an overnight job. (And probably throughout the next day too.)

Maybe I'll put it off until tomorrow. I want to use my new computer tonight! It's so nice!

Hmm. So even if I can get it to go, it sets up a new user account? That's kinda...

I'd really just like to move these files, you know? Thanks all.

Is there a better way to just move 140 GB of stuff?

Remove the account from your new Mac, then use setup assistant to copy the user account on the Sony to the Mac. Another account will not be setup this way.

Couldn't I just delete this account afterwards? What bothers me is that I just updated a lot of things on this MacBook and I have already associated my Apple ID with it.
