Movies on iPad

I have a weird problem. Have a DVD which I wanted to load on my iPad so my daughter could watch it in the car. I used handbrake, and found a posting in a forum which said to use the Apple TV settings. It ripped the DVD just fine, and dropped it into iTunes just fine. But, when I tried to sync to the Ipad, I got an error message saying "this video cannot be played on this iPad" and it wouldn't sync it.

It ripped it as an mp4. Did I do something wrong?
