Where did 4.31 GB of storage go?

I have a 60 GB iPod. When I was downloading songs tonight I glanced at the latest stats and here is what I saw.

Itunes Library: 5516 Songs using 19.01 GB

iPod: Used space 19.09 & Free space 36.60

First off, why would the used space on the iPod be greater than what is in the library and second the used space plus free space on the iPod only adds up to 55.69 GB. Where did the 4.31 GB of storage space disapper to?

I saw a similar question elsewhere and someone left a one word reply--Restore. Why would that help, if that is indeed what I need to do?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Welcome to Apple Discussions!

1) The used space on the iPod may be larger because there are other things on the iPod. For example, contacts, calendar entries, photos, notes, files on the iPod, etc. all take up space and that space is not counted in your iTunes libary. When you connect your iPod and click it under "Source" in iTunes, iTunes should show the space used on the iPod. Does that match what your iPod says?

2) This is why you only have 55.69 GB...
