iphoto no longer finding faces--"no unconfirmed faces of (name) found

iphoto now will not find faces after years of reliable operation. Any clues out there on how to restore it?

iPhoto '11, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4), version 9.4.3 of iPhoto
