Cost of repair would exceed the worth of this iMac, anyhoo, if it could be repaired.

My advice, forget purchasing an old Mac and if you want to be part of the 21 century and more up to date with the current Mac community, look to move up to older Intel Macs. Preferably, 2007 Intel Mac models and higher.

And, yes. Any newer Intel Mac will work in AU, you will just need a different mains connector to use when you get back. You should be able to easily get one of these from an Apple Store or Apple reseller or online in AU once you return.

This is not an official response from Apple, as the Forums are provided for user-to-user support. Your iMac is considered "obsolete" hardware by Apple, so there is no longer any way to have it repaired with new parts - they are no longer made or available. If you took it to a repair facility in your area and paid someone to replace the defective CRT screen with a used one, you would have no idea as to how much service life you can expect from it. The least expensive solution would be to purchase a comparable (used) G3 iMac and transfer the hard drive from your iMac to the replacement model. An Apple computer manufactured for distribution in the US would be designed for the ~120 Volt A.C. voltage found here, and the power cord would have the corresponding/compatible plug for receptacles found here. Aren't there many old Mac computers available for sale on eBay Australia?

What about Asia or even Europe or UK?

if you insist upon using these old machines (and i also do) you need to plan ahead for these little mishaps. your best bet may be to take the same approach that i do-----buy an extra machine and have it on hand when you need to swap or raid it for parts. there aren't a whole lot of these old ones for sale right now and it could take months to find a suitable replacement. i agree with jeff, a crt swap doesn't make a lot of sense.

The apple modles a,b,c,&d contained a crt connector.

Do not know what type of connector: apple crt connector db-15 ??? or VGA???

You could find any apple display of he era and connect it to the mac. Would look a little funny.
