Restore the phone using iTunes as a new phone. If the problem persists you have a hardware failure. As the phone is still in warranty take it to an Apple store for diagnosis. Make a reservation first at the genius bar.

before i could restore it put itself in recovery mode. then i tried restoring it but the resore failed from a 1600 error (after a day of 11 kernel panics) so looks like its off to the apple store

    See: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error1601

But it likely is a hardware problem.

Seems as if poor Darwin, iPhone kernel, didn't knew what to do and locked down my iPhone, first my phone got stuck in safari then springboard crashed then my phone tuned off and when I turned it on I found this. I seems as if what you had was clearly a hardware problem whereas my phone I probably have both since this phone was bought the year of the iPhone 4 release.  I would call apple which is what I'm going to do
