iMessage not working

I've been having a serious problem. Namely that iMessages aren't all being delivered to all devices, but to some. I know this because people will show me what they've sent and it shows delivered on their device, but my iPhone shows nothing. I have talked to Apple Support several times and they continue to tell me there is nothing wrong with iMessage when clearly there is. All you have to do is go to twitter and type in "iMessage not working" and you will see the 100's of thousands of people complaining. Because of this I am wondering if there is any fix to this issue. It begins to send as an iMessage and will not deliver, then continues to send as an SMS message. I have contacted my carrier, AT&T and they have told me it has nothing to do with them, but with apple. The issue is beginning to become ridiculous as I am missing many messages in the past 4 days. I am wondering what the fix may be, if there is one, and if anyone else that may be reading the discussions is also having this issue. I have tried everything that support has told me to do and nothing has worked: restore, reset, everything.

If you look at the time/date stamp on those thousands of twitter messages you will see they all occur around the same timeframe when iMessage is down. Details are important if you want to imply an issue exists.

Since a wide-spread issue does not exist, the problem must be with your device or account.

Start by disabling iMessage on your device and then re-enable it.

Unfortunately the "time/date stamp" has been over the last two days specifically. The problem is not only with my device, but with the, currently, 323,000 tweets that have tweeted about "iMessage not working" over the past two days. Not to be rude, but I'd hope before you make a comment like that you yourself checked twitter. Not to mention I said I have been through everything in hopes to see if it is my device, including something as simple as turning iMessage on and off. They have told me the problem is not with my device already, but they have said that the problem is not a big problem, which it is. iMessage is becoming very unreliable, and although it does not affect everyone it is begining to affect a lot of people.

Hey Barnyeard - I've been having the same trouble... it works on my iPad but not my iPhone - strange. also I'm in Australia - not the USA so its obviously a huge problem.

I was on the phone to Apple last night and they could not fix the issue without Erasing all Content and Settings which i'm not prepared to do just yet...

Hopefully there will be a fix for this shortly....

I am still having a problem. Apple keeps telling me it has nothing to do with them but it is obviously a widespread problem, and because Apple does not see a problem within themselves they will not really search for an answer. Also, a lot of people are probably just waiting for a fix instead of taking the issue to Apple. It has been a month and nothing has been fixed for me. My friend who is also having the same issue called and they told him the problem was with my phone, except, when I called the problem was with his phone and not my phone. So, clearly they are not nearly prepared to deal with the issue, or to accept the problem is in fact with them.

Here's how I fixed the issue.

I did an iCloud backup

Did a full reset

Restored backup and guess what.... it didn't fix the problem.

However.... here is what did fix the problem

I went into Settings --> Messages

Listed under the "Send & Receive" button it only showed one address listed.

On the 'You can be reached by iMessage at' it only had my email address there with a check mark. My phone number was unchecked but i couldn't check it for some reason. So what I did was click on my Apple ID at the Top and choose view account. Entered in my password and that made the phone number show as checked. Then I started getting iMessages on my iPhone again. If that doesn't work. Click on Apple ID at the top and choose LOCATION

Lets do this. If you are noticing that there are only certin people that you cannot iMessage the issue might be indeed with the service itself. Remeber iMessage is still a work in progress as is other apps such as Maps, and Siri. Because of this it is usually never a device issue rather a software/service issue. Looks like you have done a very good job with troubleshooting. If you have already contacted Apple what might help is getting you to a Senior Advisor. I cannot promise results but after doing some basic troublshooting they can go to engineering and see if there is any resloution at hand or if this is just a iMessage error and we will just have to hang tight while they try to reslove it. Again im NOT promising you anything but this is worth a try.

Hope this helps out a little!
