how to calibrate my macbook air battery,
MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
The MacBook Air battery already comes calibrated, and it's not recommended to do it because it can decrease the battery life. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1490
just dont leave it plugged in 24 hours a day every day, and try not to (often) drain it lower than 5% and try to NEVER let it die from lack of power on you, ...that can mess up the OS and its rubbing your battery the wrong way 😉
Despite many who will argue "heat delamination", this approach works for me:
Plugged in when possible, the battery will stop charging at 100% and discharge slowly to 95% to save charging circuits. Then recharges to 100% and the cycle starts again.
I discharge the battery to 40% once a month.
My 2 year old battery is at 101% of designed capacity.
But Plonitus is right about 1 thing ... driving lithium ion batteries dead will shorten their life considerably.
Another fact about batteries:
Batteries are rated for 1000 cycles. Charging a battery from 50% to 100% is 1/2 cycle. Charging from 67% to 100% 3 times is 1 cycle. The battery may live past 1000 cycles, or may die right at 1000. But after 1000 cycles any loss of battery life is considered "normal".
The longer you run on batty and need to recharge uses up cycles. Sometimes that is required because you are rarely able to stay in one place and use the charger. In that case you have conceded you will need a new battery sooner, but the system will be serving your needs.
Thank You Very Much for your information,
How long do i need to charge my mac for fisrt time usage ?
i just bought it.
Plug it in, start using it immediately. Charging will stop at 100% on its own.
Enjoy!
Use it as usual until the battery capacity is about 5 or 10%, and then, charge it fully. You have to do the same with every cycle you do.
Also, another thing you can do is to use the MacBook Air plugged to the charger all the time and only do a cycle once a month. Both things are good for the battery.
If you want more information about the battery, see > http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html
do you mean that, better to not always charge the battery, and always keep it fully charge, as to reduce the cycle of battery chargin.
im sorrry if it is wrong,
please advice me, Thank You Very Much
In general, it doesn't mind, because you will have to replace the battery, but if you need your Mac plugged, it's a good way of keeping your battery lifetime
