Why does a book dustcover spline have different printing to the book spline

What ever is used as the main title to a book gets printed on the dustcover spline even if it is on more than one line but on the actual book spline using more than one line for the title all that prints is what is before return is pressed for the second line. Why is it not duplicated from the dustcover spline.
