it should be mentionned that another device connected to the keyboard or mice (like iPad) will impair connection with the device you are trying to pair. although i usually check this, i had an ipad that had automatically connect to the keyboard, and i couldn't pair it with my imac. you should suspect this if the keyboard led doesn't blink, eg doesn't try to connect.
