I cannot get into my iphone to do a reset I am trying to reset it through the itunes app

You don't reset your phone using the itunes app.

A reset is holding down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release, then wait for the phone to boot back up.

A restore can be done directly on your phone or connecting your phone to your computer open itunes and select restore.

To restore your phone to factory settings directly on your phone go to settings - general - reset -erase all contents and settings.
